Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This school year, I’ll be teaching a vibrant group of first graders who thrive on encouragement and positive reinforcement. Many of my students need extra support in developing the social-emotional skills that help them become respectful, responsible, and inclusive classmates.
To meet their needs, I’m excited to implement the Bucket Fillers program—a positive behavior management system that encourages students to show kindness, empathy, and responsibility in their daily actions.
Using a hands-on pom-pom system, students will earn “bucket fillers” when they demonstrate positive behaviors and work toward becoming caring members of our classroom community.
To introduce and reinforce these values, I’ll be using a carefully selected collection of diverse and inclusive picture books. These stories will help students understand that being a bucket filler means respecting everyone—regardless of background, race, culture, or identity. We’ll celebrate our differences and learn how to build an inclusive and kind classroom environment for all.
With your support, I’ll be able to provide a behavior management system that not only encourages positive choices, but also celebrates kindness, inclusion, and representation. Together, we can help my students grow into thoughtful, respectful individuals who know how to fill each other’s buckets—in every sense of the word.
