My students need a parachute and baseball materials for physical education, as well as options for flexible seating such as ball chairs and peanut balls.

My Students
This section asks to describe what makes my students special and I don't even know where to begin! My students come from a variety of different backgrounds. Some are newcomers from the Middle East, while some come from families where generations have attended the very school they are at now. I make sure to do everything possible to send my students out into the world as compassionate, tolerant individuals. The neighborhood I teach in is high poverty, but our school really tries to level the playing field for all students.
Each of my students is passionate about a number of different things and, as a teacher, I try to find ways to ignite that passion.
Not all of my students are excellent at math or reading, but they might love sports or technology. As a class, we enjoy coming up with ways to incorporate a little bit of ourselves into what we are learning.
My Project
A lot of my students struggle with bottled up energy throughout the day. Often times, this energy can get in the way of their learning and make it difficult for them to stay focused. My students are very capable and finding different outlets for their energy has really benefited their learning.
I am constantly looking for ways to help my students get their "wiggles" out.
Whether that means looking for new P.E. games to play, "brain breaks" to take, or flexible seating to try out! To date, we already have floor cushions, wobble cushions, stadium seats and lap desks in the classroom, but stability balls would be a nice addition to the classroom. I envision my students using the stability balls at their desks, but also taking them around the room with clipboards when they are collaborating with other students. Quite a few of my students work every day to overcome various learning disabilities and having flexible seating options is just another tool they use to help themselves stay engaged and focused.
Physical Education has also been a challenge. My school has some P.E. equipment, but a lot of it is things my students have used for years and are bored with. Things like baseball, a parachute and flashlights for "tag" would really bring a lot of excitement back to P.E. for my fifth graders!
