My Students
I have a wonderful class of second graders in Oregon! They are sweet, caring, and full of life! They love learning and truly enjoy taking in new information. I teach in a high-poverty area, where 75% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Every year I have students who struggle in writing.
I want to continue to place an emphasis on writing instruction to help my students grow and improve over the year.
My students come from a variety of different economic and cultural backgrounds. My students speak many different languages, have various interests, and have diverse learning styles. We are a community in our classroom, working together and supporting each other every day.
My Project
I have already been working closely with Jennifer Serravallo's The Writing Strategies Book. These strategies have allowed me to be successful in helping my students become better writers.
We currently do not have a strong writing curriculum so everything we do is planned and created by me.
Having these go-to books for writing will provide me with read alouds that fit well with the strategies I am teaching from Serravallo's book.
I am excited to incorporate these mentor texts into my writing instruction. I am a big fan of Serravallo and her work so I know these mentor texts will be great for my 2nd graders!
