My Students
This section asks to describe what makes my students special and I don't even know where to begin! My students come from a variety of different backgrounds. Some are newcomers from the Middle East, while some come from families where generations have attended the very school they are at now. I make sure to do everything possible to send my students out into the world as compassionate, tolerant individuals. The neighborhood I teach in is high poverty, but our school really tries to level the playing field for all students.
Each of my students is passionate about a number of different things and, as a teacher, I try to find ways to ignite that passion.
Not all of my students are excellent at math or reading, but they might love sports or technology. As a class, we enjoy coming up with ways to incorporate a little bit of ourselves into what we are learning.
My Project
I am teaching second grade for the first time this upcoming school year and I would love to add some easy-readers and picture books to my library for my new classroom! Currently, my library is full of chapter books and I'm afraid some of my students might have a hard time finding a book they can read, and are interested in. By adding classics like Clifford, Berenstain Bears and Little Critters, I am sure to capture their attention and inspire them to dive into a book.
With interests in STEM growing, books like Ada Lace and Ada Twist are sure to inspire my students and make them feel like they are capable of anything!
My students are sure to find a title that will pique their interest among the variety included in this project and I cannot wait to see them excited to grab a book, curl up in our reading corner and travel to a new world!
