My students need small packs of high interest leveled readers, like the At the Park 6 pack and the The Giraffe Made Her Laugh 6 pack, to be used for guided reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every day my students look forward to reading a new book during our guided reading block. They beam with pride when they move on to the next level. I give my most struggling readers get an extra dose in an effort to help them reach grade level.
My students are wonderful kids who are eager to learn.
Many of them just started reading this year. They love books and their parents are excited about their sons/daughters newfound lover for reading. Unfortunately, many of them have not been given tools to help them reach their full potential. They attend a large public school in Southern California. It is in a largely low-income neighborhood.
My Project
My students will use the sets of guided reading books to help them learn how to become better readers. They will meet with me to read books at an appropriate reading level for them. Here I will guide them to use picture clues, context clues, look at the first or last sound in a word, and other strategies to help them learn to read new words. They will also learn to read for meaning by summarizing and discussing the text. They will then be able to take the book to their seats and read it to a classmate. They then add their book to their "personal library" and keep it for practice until they move to a new reading level. Every month their parents are invited to come to the classroom and have their children read these books to them.
These books will give my lower readers more practice and opportunity to become better readers.
These are the students who need the most help and that is why I would like to have more sets of books at these lower levels. They will not only have more practice, but also more reason to be proud of themselves when they are able to read more books to their classmates and parents.
