My students need to have the opportunity to read the newspaper and nonfiction text. I am requesting subscriptions to Scholastic News and Time for Kids.
Everyone loves when they get mail! By having a new, high interest, nonfiction resources delivered monthly to the classroom, my little ones will have the excitement to read nonfiction text at their level.
My 28 little ones are amazing and my heart.
I am so proud of them! We have some basic rules in the classroom that they all know and happily follow:
It is OK to make mistakes, that is how we learn.
We always try out best.
Treat ourselves, others and our classroom with respect.
They are readers, authors, mathematicians, musicians, dancers, scientist, researchers, community activist and kind, caring, generous people. I am fortunate to have friends and family members that have helped to inspire them to dream of college and great careers. It is my job to help make their dreams come true.
My Project
I would be able to use these resources, Scholastic News and Time for Kids, as a whole group activity, small group guided reading text or in a differentiated learning center. The nonfiction newspapers also come with a web site that allows for further exploration of the topic they are reading about. I know that this resource would be invaluable in the classroom.
An added bonus is that these materials would be able to go home and be shared with the families. I know that this resource would be invaluable in the classroom.
My brother delivered the newspaper and I remember the excitement of being the first to see it, especially on Sunday mornings.
Many of us have memories of our parents reading the newspaper with a cup of coffee in the morning. I want my little ones to appreciate and enjoy reading the newspaper, learning about the world they live in. I am hoping that this appreciation of newspapers stays with them for many years to come.
