My students need Math and ELA center materials to replace those lost in flood.

My Students
My students are funny, smart, charismatic, curious, polite kids that learn how to be responsible little leaders each day we spend together. They see school as an opportunity to be themselves while learning but more importantly, a place they feel special and loved. My kids come from low income/high poverty and don't have much. I've always felt it was very important to provide them with resources to help them become problem solvers in academics and in their lives. Our school/district does not have the finances to provide us with much. Over the years, I have purchased many materials for my students to ensure they have hands on, engaging and relevant materials to be successful.
In the flood, my students lost most of the district supplies provided, as well as the materials I've purchased over the years.
It has been extremely difficult to see so much of your hard work, time and money destroyed. My students have always enjoyed working with partners, manipulatives and games to reinforce concepts taught and problem solving skills. They would absolutely be thrilled to have some of these items in their classroom. When a student takes an interest in their learning, the results are endless!
My Project
Most of my center activities and games were destroyed in the flood. I've spent countless time, effort and my personal money creating games and activities for my students. I think it is very important that students have a hands-on approach to learning. Not only do they comprehend the skills better but they take an interest in their own learning. My students always show tremendous growth over the school year in their Math and Reading skills. I contribute a lot of this to the materials I choose to teach and reinforce skills with.
Replacement of my Math/Reading centers and games, will give my students the opportunity to excel in their learning and have fun doing it!
During our whole group lessons when I am introducing a skill, I will use the manipulatives so students have a visual of the concept being learned. Students will use the manipulatives as they work independently or in groups. The games and activities will also be used during centers. Students will work with their partner or group to problem solve, collaborate and record their learning. Early finishers will also have the opportunity to use these materials upon completion of their work.
