Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine competeing in a technology-oriented world with no experience ever using technology? Help my students level the playing field and have a fighting chance to compete in today's world by giving them access to useful technological tools, such as the iPad.
My students are second graders.
They come from low-income families. Our school popoulation is comprised of mostly Hispanic, African-American, Burmese, and Iraqi students. Most of the school gets free/reduced lunch. Many of our students come from families where no English is spoken. It is the challenge of these students to learn English, while simultaneously learning the curriculum. They must struggle to make their inputs and outputs comprehensible.
My Project
My students will get the opportunity to work with technology to help get them on the same page as students in the rest of the country. All of my students come from families where going out to dinner is a treat in itself that is very rarely seen. These children have no real opportunity to access any technology, except the technology that we have here at school. We do many projects on our computers and are looking to expand our projects to our iPads. Some of these projects that we would like to do on our iPads include creating presentations with video, sound, text, and photos. We would also like to create our own iBooks and share them with our classmates. Using our iPads will also help us to increase our reading fluency and excitement for reading because it is presented in a fun way. If we can have our own iPads in our classroom, it will help make our projects more meaningful as well as more relevant to the world around us.
Help us to have a fighting chance, competing in this technologically-savvy world.
We want to have an opportunity to experience all that technology has to offer, like other students in the country are experiencing. With your help, we can have those opportunities that we cannot afford otherwise. You can help make our learning more meaningful and fun. You can help us to level the playing field.
