My Students
I am a K-8 Physical Educator, so my day is run differently throughout the week. I want ALL of my students to have the best experience and reach their goals we set during the first week of school. I cannot get them there without the proper resources. I have had to make a lot of my equipment.
My school is a K-8, 1st year building.
My students come from all over the city. My students are all on free and reduced lunch and many come from troubled backgrounds. Since this is a first year school, the physical education department was left with little or nothing to work with. My students are VERY energetic and need new and exciting ways to burn off their energy for the day. They are all ready to learn how to maintain a healthy level of physical fitness.
My Project
Jumping rope is a lifelong activity. This form of exercise can be very fun & at times, challenging. My students will be able to participate in Jump Rope for Heart, which I can use across all of the grade bands. I will be able to teach the younger kids how to properly turn and jump rope which they will be able to carry with them throughout adulthood. Every Wednesday, I do fitness stations with the upper grades and obstacle courses with the younger grades. I will be able to use both of the jump ropes and boxes in the stations and obstacle courses. The jump boxes will help with quick explosion off of the ground and during the obstacle courses, it can challenge the kids to go over or around the boxes. The parachute is not only a very fun activity for all ages, but it also helps build upper body strength and teamwork. A great class is built off of classroom management and teamwork. What better way to build teamwork, get a great upper body workout in, and have fun, than to use a parachute!
Donations to this project will help a great deal because I will be able to conduct full units instead of doing different lessons and not being able to focus on one specific skill.
This will change my students' lives because I will be able to introduce them to new forms of fitness that they may not be able to receive elsewhere. I will be able to see my students challenge themselves and reach the goals they have set forth in September.
