My Students

We have an amazing population of students at our school. With our school located right on the edge of Dowtown, our students come from all sorts of backgrounds. Some of them come from the neighborhoods just above the school while others come from the shelter a couple blocks down.

The one thing our students have in common is that when they walk through the doors of our school, they're ALL ready to work hard.

We do everything we can as individual teachers and a whole school to use their desire to work hard and learn to help these students reach their goals.

My Project

The spelling program that my school has been using leaves a lot to be desired. It gives the whole class the same list (regardless of ability level) and expects them to move on to the next list whether they pass or not. It makes the kids feel defeated, and they don't gain an understanding of why words are spelled the way they are.

My students need a complete set of the Words Their Way books for elementary students.

Words Their Way is a program that uses a diagnostic test to determine exactly what level individual students are on. It will allow me to place each student where they belong as an individual and teach them the patterns within word groups.
