Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from wonderful families but unfortunately many are unemployed or hold low-paying jobs. While they have a lot of love to give their children, I want my students to be able to visualize themselves as capable of becoming doctors, police officers, chefs, authors, etc.
Our school is a large elementary school in Colorado.
Most of these students (90 or so percent) experience poverty and about 70% are second language learners. our school follows the International Baccalaureate Curriculum, in which the goal is create learners that are internationally minded. I expect to have between 25-32 kindergartners in my classroom next year. I can expect that they will be working towards becoming knowledgeable, principled, balanced, and caring. I love working with kindergarten students because they are excited to be in school and make so much growth throughout the school year.
My Project
I plan to use these resources mainly during the short developmental center time that we have during the day. I can also use these resources during literacy block to recreate stories or role play events. I hope that these costumes will allow my students to use their imagination to become professionals holding different careers. Currently, my costume box is looking quite poor. It is mostly old clothing or shoes. Many of these items are torn. I think that my next class will have so much fun with these resources, while they are creating their dreams for the future!
These resources will impact my students by allowing them to dream about and create their future!
I know that my students can achieve their dreams and I know that these resources will be an important step to visualizing their future and believing that they can achieve their dreams.
