This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In my classroom, we focus on becoming better individuals by working together. My students tackle each day and each lesson in teams. We celebrate the learning gains we make. We use our failures as opportunities to learn. We believe mistakes are proof that we are trying. This year I have 19 amazingly driven students in my room. Each day, I see them working to improve their understanding of the material being taught. I watch as they struggle, get frustrated and then choose to persevere. I am truly blessed with a group of students who do not believe in giving up. My students inspire me.
My Project
I have dedicated, hard working students--students that are just as kind as they are bright. However there are days that a select few cannot sit still long enough to complete a task. I have seen these wiggle stools in other classrooms work for students with similar needs. They are able to sit on this stools wobble around, all the while completing their work and engaging with their table mates. Currently, when having these days, these particular students miss out on the learning that occurs when their table mates discuss problems. They want to walk around or work on the floor. I genuinely believe the simple act of replacing their traditional school chair with one that provides movement will allow these students an outlet for their wiggles. Therefore, they can wiggle while they work. Help my wiggle worms!
