My Students

Please help the sun come out for our students! Our drama club is performing Annie this year but we need their voices to be heard by having new headset microphones and microphone stands. The school does not have funding to help us and we don't have a Daddy Warbucks so we need your help!

Our K- 5 public elementary school has a diverse population and is located in California.

About 11 years ago we started a drama club thinking about 20 or so students would be interested in joining. Little did we know that 150 kids would sign up. Since that day we have put on 11 full scale musical productions. All students receive parts as either speakers or as part of the ensemble and all students get their moment in the spotlight on stage. We have had many students who have joined in kindergarten and continued on to 5th grade. Many children start out shy and blossom into confident actors with stage presence and strong self-esteem. They also experience a sense of community and collaboration that culminates on the day of the production.

My Project

One of the most important elements of a stage play is being able to hear the actors. Unfortunately, years of wear and tear have taken their toll on our microphones and sound equipment. Due to cutbacks, our school doesn't have the funds to help us. We desperately need these microphones so our little actors can be heard by the audience. We perform two shows for the whole student body and two shows for family and friends. Each audience consists of about 600 people and we need the sound to reach all the way to the back of our multi-purpose room.

Cultural arts are a wonderful way to broaden a child's education and view of the world.

When funds are cut from the schools, one of the first things to be eliminated or cut back are the extra- curricular programs such as music or theater. Our drama program is an important part of our school community and has even inspired the middle school to start a drama program so that students can continue their theatrical journey. Please support our drama program by donating so we can be heard loud and clear.
