My students need a laptop we only have one working computer with internet!! We also need a printer. We now live in the era where technology is so essential for learning.
We're trying to keep up with technology, but it's hard when old computers break down and are considered obsolete! I have only one student computer that hooks on to the Internet. We also are in need of a printer. We do not have one.
My students come from low-economic households and they do not own a computer.
Many of them are learning how to use a computer at school which is a very important skill for the future. Many of them have parents who had very little schooling or who didn't attend school which makes it even more of a challenge when they want to learn how to use a computer. Our school has low funds and my students have so many needs. My students are motivated to learn but struggle with school. When I have them use technology to learn multiplication facts, or a special math program for intervention and English they get motivated and try their best.
My Project
We need a laptop so that my students can hear the books being read to them during our literacy center time and will load the math program we use. They will also use them for special math programs on-line to help them reach their proficiency in math. The laptop will help them learn how to browse the Internet to conduct research for their animal reports. They will also be able to learn English by using a special computer program called LEXIA. My students would greatly benefit by taking comprehension quizzes on-line to provide me with data to discover if they understood the book or not. The printer will also help my students by providing my class with colored copies. They will eventually be very excited to learn about technology especially if they get to use it to feel academically ready.
In this day and age our children need to be familiar with the technology that will be in their lives forever.
It's never too early to start, and third grade students love working and learning on the computer. Please help make a difference in the lives of these students.
