Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many of our students experience clothing scarcity. Many of our families don’t have much money to keep up with their students' growth or trends. Students are allowed to come and can shop as needed for themselves or for their families all for free. When people feel good in their clothes, they build confidence and confidence radiates to others. My goal is for all students to be worry-free about their basic needs so they can focus on learning. I love seeing this space grow and making it feel like an upscale boutique where people want to shop.
This Spartan Closet is ran by all volunteer Spartans, including students with disabilities, teaching them how to give back to their community, repurpose items, reuse items, and recycle things before throwing them into a landfill.
In addition, students are learning how to lead, collaborate, and communicate, as well as executive functioning skills (organizing, planning, and time management). With these life skills, students are able to apply them to the workforce when the time is right.
The requested items (clothing hangers, baskets, jewelry display stands, and aprons) will allow our Spartan Closet to grow and serve even more students. This is an inviting Spartan Closet where students and families want to donate their used clothing and shop for new items all while helping their Spartan Community.
