it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like to be a kid and have so many questions you need answers to?? Well my great group of students has thousands of them...and they WANT answers!
I have an incredible group of 5th graders that I have had the privilege of teaching since 3rd grade.
When I tell you incredible that is an understatement. They are hardworking, inquisitive, kind, caring, funny, and very well mannered. They just need a little help to access some of the learning tools that the average kid has access to. Our school is located in a low income area where most of the kids qualify for free lunch and have little or no ability to access the Internet at home. At school we all share one rather old computer, but it works! We have made it work for almost three years but as my students get older their need for researching subjects on the internet has grown. We are currently researching outer space. We have created research groups and are creating both written reports as well as projects. Needless to say it has been quite difficult with only the one classroom computer being used for research, images, and writing.
My Project
Adding these Coby tablets to our classroom would allow our class more access to the Internet for research and learning purposes. Students will no longer have to wait over a week for their turn to use the computer. In addition, students will also be able to learn how to search the web for materials they need. Many of these children have never before even accessed the web. To be able to teach them research basics now will allow them excel in their educational futures.
