My Students
Very few students in our school/my classroom have access to technology at home. Therefore, I want to be able to provide quality learning experiences with technology when they are at school.
My 3rd grade class is made up of 18 energetic, eager, and motivated learners.
They love learning and using computers for educational/learning games and Accelerated Reader. More than 70% of the students in our Title I school receive free/reduced lunch.
My Project
Our school district has been fortunate enough to be able to put SMARTboards in most classrooms. However, we have very limited resources when it comes to classroom computers and having access to the school computer lab. The 2 desktop computers that we have in our classroom run very slow if at all most days. I am asking for 2 netbook computers, 1 printer, and 10 flash drives for our classroom so that my students may use them for Accelerated Reader, a variety of Internet-based learning activities and test prep, and creating book reports, PowerPoint presentations, etc. In a technology-driven world, students will be learning technological skills that they can carry with them throughout their school years and into the "real world" as adults.
I have a very diverse class of learners and having these materials accessible in our classroom would enable me to meet the needs of all learners.
Most of our textbooks are available for online viewing and have audio text available as well. It would be beneficial to my special needs and struggling readers to be able to use the netbooks to access the online textbook and use the audio text as they are reading the material. I feel this technology is going to positively impact student achievement.
