Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach K-4 music at an elementary school in Texas. Our school is high poverty with approximately 85% free and reduced lunch. For many of our students, school is the safest cleanest place they go all day. Our students are also poor in experiences and we make a special effort to provide enriching activities.
One of the most enriching experiences we offer is the Eagle Orff Ensemble. This is a group that performs on classroom instruments. We sing, play instruments, move creatively, dance and create music. Every year we perform at a local festival and this will be our seventh year to attend.
My students need new instruments for our Orff Ensemble. I am requesting a soprano xylophone and two alto xylophones. Our current instruments are dilapidated and most are over 20 years old. We need to replace them with new, well-constructed instruments. If we are going to build the musical skills of our students, we need instruments that will support such development.
With the purchase of new instruments, we can service more children in a more timely manner and improve greatly the sound of the performing group. The students will enjoy playing on the new instruments and their skills will develop and improve accordingly.
You will make it possible for the Eagle Orff Ensemble to continue. Our instruments are old, in disrepair, and we have no budget to replace them. Please help us to continue offering this program to our students; they desperately need it!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
