Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The school community I serve is a diverse, urban community that is very invested in the learning of their children. A common area that both families and the school have shared a strong focus on is literacy. I'd like to develop a Community Literacy event where I'd work with students to facilitate and serve the community at this event. The students would lead reading circles, host guest readers, offer book read-and-take opportunities to boost literacy at home, and offer reading games to all participants, which will impact the school, the community, and beyond.

To develop good citizens literacy is imperative, but so is teaching students about community service to give back to our community and develop responsible citizens.

In order to carry out his literacy event we will need books, reading games, book markers, reading pointers (witch fingers), and reading stickers. I'd also like reading certificates and reading pencils to recognize the outstanding students in the school community who helped promote literacy through this community literacy event. Those students will be recognized as exceptional community service members and literary guides of our school. Thank you for supporting my project!
