Help Students Participate in Virtual Speech Therapy!
Help me give my students headphones and whiteboards that will enable them to better participate during remote instruction and teletherapy (speech therapy, occupational therapy, etc).
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a speech language pathologist in Woodhaven, NY. Many of the families are of a lower socioeconomic status and a majority of the parents of my students are Spanish speaking. My students all have speech and language difficulties, as well as being English language learners. Despite their challenges, my students are always eager and enthusiastic about learning! Our families and students have struggled greatly during this pandemic during remote learning. Many of my students are not able to afford supplies such as books, small whiteboards, headphones, Dry erase markers, markers, crayons, etc, which would all help make remote learning more successful.
My Project
This school year will most likely be a hybrid model with both in person learning and remote learning. Many students did not have the necessary supplies to participate fully during remote learning last year. There was often a lot of background noise coming from student’s homes which impacted their ability to hear and participate in speech therapy. Headphones will help reduce background noise and maximize learning. Whiteboards and dry erase markers will help students participate during spelling and writing tasks, so they can easily write, show their responses, and erase their work.
