My Students

I am teaching the next generations of scientists. My students are interested in current events such as global climate change, antibiotic resistance, genetic engineering, and computer security. Each student is hard working and is dedicated to improving their future and the future of their community. This community was once a place where ranchers and farmers would make their living. Today, the residents of our Bay Area have diverse jobs; my students reflect this new diversity. Nonetheless, each is curious and passionate about understanding the world around them.

My Project

Students must calculate a variety of equations in science classes- this is vital to analyzing the data they gather in their investigations. Having the ability to calculate trends in their data helps them understand concepts which we are talking about, and makes science relate to their personal lives. How does the volume of water affect its melting point? Experimentation and calculation makes the phenomenon of specific heat come to life for students (and explains why coastal towns such as ours have such comfortable weather.)

Being able to analyze their own data gives students ownership of their experiment.

Students choose their own variables and see the trends based off these changes- making them excited to get results. This excitement is key to understanding phenomena of our world.
