Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Please help a classroom of high-need first graders with TIME for kids! TIME for kids will provide my students with an amazing source of non-fiction articles.

Our students face enormous struggles each day. We have an extremely diverse population of students with many second-language learners and refugees from war-torn countries. These students live in a poverty-stricken neighborhood with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch at school. Our school does not have the ability to purchase additional educational materials or supplies for our students. Many of these "extras" are either purchased by teachers or never purchased at all. Many of these resources will help our students to accomplish goals of proficiency in all academic areas.

TIME for kids is an excellent resource for our high-needs students! First graders are at a critical point in their literacy development. During this point, students are exposed to a variety of genres of literature. Non-fiction is one of the genres that educators at our school find difficult to teach due to lack of materials. We are currently teaching from old scholastic news and TIME issues that are black and white copies from years past. The photos and text features are often unrecognizable.

Your donation will help our students to connect with the outside world in which they are unable to experience first-hand due to their lack of financial resources. TIME for kids helps students with their literacy development and teaches them about current events, science and social studies in words that they understand. I know that TIME for kids will not only improve my students academic knowledge, but will motivate them to want to become better readers and a productive member of their society!
