Being excited about learning and having a positive attitude describes my students. Unfortunately with cutbacks and huge class sizes, schools are no longer able to provide basic supplies to students and classrooms. A bright, appealing classroom and new supplies make students feel welcomed.
My students attend a small school in a rural community.
They are hard workers who are engaged in learning and eager to demonstrate the skills they are acquiring. Our class sizes have grown every year which requires more supplies. Unfortunately the economy has had a negative impact on our area and parents are often unable to provide supplies their student needs for school. Teachers are lucky if students come to school with pencils and paper.
My Project
The supplies I have asked for will brighten our classroom's bulletin boards and extend from there to the whole learning environment. Students enjoy a bright, cheerful atmosphere. The supplies will be used for the numerous motivators that I have in class. The bright index cards are used in drawings for prizes each week for students who have followed rules and reached their goals.
The dry erase makers are used daily as the students show they grasp math concepts on their white boards. They give me a quick snapshot of what they know and don't know. We go through numerous markers each year.
The other supplies are for projects they will be working on throughout the year. We do all sorts of writing, and students will print special projects on tag board.
Without support for this project students will not have the supplies they need for the year and will not be able to do the projects we have done in the past.
They are always excited for the hands-on-learning in my class. Without even knowing it, they are learning and engaged. Due to cutbacks in education and the expansion of class sizes, students will not have what they need unless people donate.
