Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love abstract art. It does not follow any one style or pattern. It can be simple or complex. It just depends on what the artist wants to show. What I like best about abstract art is my special needs pre-k students can do it and they love it.

My students all love school and indicate that love with smiles, coo's, laughs and words.

They all have special needs from moderate disabilities such as developmental delays to severe disabilities such as Autism and multiple disabilities orthopedic (MDO). My students need many activities where they are successful and art is the foundation that I use to support their needs. My school is located in Southern California in a high crime/low economical area where all the students receive free lunch. Regardless of that fact, I want my students to have the same opportunities and supplies that other preschoolers have.

My Project

I have selected an array of art materials that we need for the remainder of the school year. Most pre-k classrooms are full of finger paints, collage material , crayons , stampers and other items to make their classes fun. That is not the case at my school, I have to buy or do without for simple projects. I want my students to have those same opportunities. My preschoolers may have disabilities , but they still enjoy expressing themselves with colors, textures, and other sensory activities. It is their creativity using different mediums that allows them to express their individuality.

Preschool is such a fun grade to teach and my students love art.

It gives them the opportunity to get as messy, sticky and creative while expressing themselves through art. These art materials including puffy paint, rainbow crayons, colored sand glitter painters and the collage material will inspire my special preschoolers to express their individuality and emotions through a variety of mediums. Thank you for taking the time to read and support my proposal.
