Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Preschool students love to draw. They love making marks on paper with crayons and paint. Drawing is often one of the first art activities that my special needs students can do independently. Help me make their drawing come alive with an assortment of paper that will ignite their creativity.
I have ten of the most precious, lovable, and unique students.
They have a variety of special needs, such as autism and cerebral palsy. Most of my students are able to walk, and I have one in a wheel chair. Art is so universal, that all my students are able to fully engage in the activities. Also, they are so full of fun and life, that their disabilities don't get in the way of their spirit and desire to succeed. Our school is a high poverty, title-one school. The students all receive free breakfast and lunch. This means the majority of the families come from poverty.
My Project
My students love drawing. Drawing requires very little in the way of materials. It is easy and engaging for all my students regardless of their ability level. Painting gives my students opportunities to simply get messy. What child doesn't love sticking their fingers in thick gooey paint and creating art with their own two hands. These are the times that I love most, when I can sit back and watch my students become the master of their own creations. My students need bright, colorful paper that is not available at our school. Who wants to draw or paint on white paper all the time. There is a whole world of colors and I want my students to have access to as many as possible. My student will learn so many things using these items. They will learn how to express themselves. They will also learn how to experiment with ideas, and they will develop fine motor skills that will help them throughout their educational career.
Children with special needs frequently need additional practice and time to develop their fine motor skills.
The water color and finger paint paper will help me provide my students with many opportunities to develop these skills. Children with special needs often need hands-on, visual, and tactile materials to help learn at their optimal level. These material will provide them with a variety of colors to choose from when they create their art, and the laminating paper will help preserve them.
