My Students
My first year of teaching has been an adventure with ups and downs. The students I interact with on a daily basis are always ready for the next challenge. While I can't think of one student who would say that geometry is their favorite subject, there are many who tell me they are always excited about my class.
Every day, I am reminded of how capable and energetic my students really are.
I was constantly warned away from taking a job in teaching, especially teaching in an under-served, urban school. This fear was worsened when I started reading some statistics that came from my school district. My students have proven all of these accusations wrong. They are ready to take their learning to the next level, and I want to be able to offer them this.
My Project
No one likes being lectured! To help my students with focus and interacting with materials, I have broken my classroom instruction into stations that include a computer station. This means students can interact with a wide range of interactive lessons on sites like Khan Academy, Prodigy, and YouTube. However, my laptops did not come with headphones!
Please, help us rid the classroom of noise pollution!
Dedicated headphones will go a long way to fixing this problem and mean I won't lose the computer with the broken speakers either.
Many of my students seem to have been born with earbuds in their ear. They have specifically requested an easy way to use those headphones in the laptops. I have added a headphone splitter for each computer. This allows them to choose the classroom headphones or their own and to share the computers if needed!
