My Students
Due to the ongoing pandemic, NYC public schools were temporarily closed starting March 15, 2020, this required a rapid transition to remote learning. This has been a challenge for our students, parents, teachers, and staff, but we stayed positive, hoping to soon reunite again. However, we were once again heartbroken at the news of schools being closed for the remainder of the academic school year 2019-2020.
No one anticipated that the time we met back in March would be our last time together.
My fifth-grade students were really looking forward to all the senior activities and most of all, graduation. This is an important milestone for them, as it is a time to celebrate all of their hard work and accomplishments in elementary school.
My Project
In the beginning of the school year, as a welcome gift and to promote reading, I made the students a personalized bookmark by laminating their names on a template. Even though it was a small gift, it made me happy to see the students appreciating it and using it to mark their page.
As we transitioned into remote learning, the biggest challenge was not being able to physically see each other.
This has caused emotional distress for a lot of my students. We have been virtually meeting on Google Meet/Zoom. However, it is not the same as physically being in a classroom together. I want my students to know that through this ongoing challenge they will come out stronger than ever.
With your help, I would love to use the Cricut materials requested to create a personalized graduation gift to commemorate all of their hard work and accomplishments in elementary school. Some ideas that I know my students would appreciate is creating a "flat-teacher" of Ms. K to help students feel connected, and personalized Graduation stickers with their name and "Class of 2020." There are many resources available online on how I can continue to utilize the Cricut to create personalized gifts and resources for students of all ages. I hope this idea can come to reality.
