My Students
In order to be supported, students need their school counselors to be visible and accessible. Using mobile technology brings school counselors out of their offices, interacting with students in more natural environments with the same resources as their desktop computers.
Our students are college-interested but not always willing to take our suggestions to heart and research their options at home.
With iPads, school counselors can show students their options at lunch duty, in the school hallway, and elsewhere, to model appropriate post-secondary planning.
We also have students who need ongoing case management and the software available for iPads will allow us to track our student contacts with minute meetings.
My Project
With iPads, school counselors can better engage with students. We can interact with our students with current and accurate information. We can immediately log case notes to ensure consistent and equitable student contact. We can report out our school's accomplishments and events through the use of social media.
On a daily basis, students ask their counselors questions in places like the hall, cafeteria, or even in classrooms, and we would be able to help them find their answers more readily with iPads. Additionally, mobile devices allow us better access to student data to provide more rich, personalized feedback and the ability to maintain student notes.
By modeling appropriate use of technology, we are enabling students to take advantage of 21st century opportunities to bridge gaps in access to higher education and goal-attainment.
Students will be provided with better case management than what they are currently receiving and their school counselors will be more mobile than the archaic, service-delivery model of being stuck in our offices. By being visible and active in the school, we will be able to establish more consistent student rapport.
