Help Revolutionize Speech-Language Therapy! Let's Talk Technology!
My students need technology (iPad Pro), to access web-based therapy materials and tools, customized for speech pathologists and specialists, to promote and enhance academic achievement.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a Title I elementary school located in the East Village of New York City.
A Title I School is a school with a large concentration of low-income students receiving supplemental funds to assist in meeting their educational goals.
My school administration and colleagues work hard to support the needs and preferences of an ever-changing, culturally diverse student population.
As a nationally certified speech-language pathologist and NYC DOE Teacher, my goal is to use technology to help diagnose and treat childhood speech and language disorders in school-aged children. Using the iPad Pro, various language-based applications can be incorporated into therapy to supplement and support common therapy targets.
My Project
Students are now using advanced technology in the classroom to shape how they learn! The use of technology is motivating and engages students during the learning process. I intend to use the iPad Pro to use a recently developed vocabulary program called Infercabulary Pro. It is a web-based (iPad Application), visual vocabulary and reasoning program designed to help students discover and learn the meanings of nuanced words. Infercabulary uses a cognitive-educational approach through the analysis of multiple images which convey various contexts of a word’s meaning. It is used to teach and reinforce vocabulary knowledge for students in grades 1st-12th grade.
Access to cutting-edge technology (iPad Pro), will allow students to use Infercabulary Pro, a scientific, research-based intervention designed to improve vocabulary and semantic knowledge.
Research shows that students must understand 98% of the words they read to understand what they are reading. Using the iPad Pro, outcome measures will be used and each student’s level of performance will be analyzed to make important educational decisions.
The protective case/equipment will be used to protect the device from normal wear and tear.
The headphones will be used to give students control over their audio-environment and to improve the amplification of sound when using therapy programs on the iPad Pro.
