My students come to school every day excited and ready to learn! They are eager to learn and try new things. I want them to know that I believe in them and they can do anything! I teach at a Title 1, pre-k through 2nd-grade school in inner-city Ohio where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of the students are living at or below the poverty line. My students are creative, caring, and very energetic. Our classroom is a hands-on learning community. I work with children that are four and five year-olds.
Their ability to love learning excites me to find new and exciting ways to teach things to them.
They love to learn about new things. They love to look up information online together and will ask many questions to learn as much as they can.
My Project
The students in are in need of a new refrigerator to use on a daily basis. Through dramatic play, children have to negotiate, agree, and cooperate. Physically children will develop small muscle and large muscle skills, as well as visual discrimination and eye-hand coordination. When children pretend, they are beginning to use abstract thinking. They also practice math skills (for example, setting the table for four people, using one-to-one correspondence). Oral language is practiced as well, growing vocabulary and taking turns in conversation. There are no limits as to what each child will learn in each of these domains through the opportunities provided by a dramatic play set.
The environment is viewed as the third teacher, and having safe, inviting materials such as a new dramatic play set for the children to use will support their play and learning.
