Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember sitting at home enjoying your favorite story book? Many of my students have not shared this experience yet, mainly due to their various learning disabilities.
My classroom is made up of 15 unique second through fifth grade minds that are eager to learn more about the environment around them.
They are predominantly from recent immigrant families residing in low-income neighborhoods. We are a Title 1 school, which means that we are in a high poverty neighborhood. Most students in my class are eligible for free lunch. My class is made of students with autism, Specific Learning Disabilities, and Other Health Impairments. Despite some of the barriers many of my students experience on a daily basis, they are enthusiastic and enjoy learning new things. Many of my students struggle with reading fluency and comprehension.
My Project
I am requesting three toner cartridges for our classroom printer. These should be enough to provide take home reading material for the upcoming school year. The materials I am requesting will change my students lives by providing access to instructional math, reading, and writing materials that fit to their needs. It will allow for me to continue to incorporate the necessary materials that will allow for them to become successful citizens. As you know, many of our school districts are experiencing deep budget cuts that do not allow them to invest in necessary materials. Since my students' needs are vast, I regularly print and create a large amount of their differentiated materials. I also depend on printing in order to share Individualized Education Programs with my families. My students and their families greatly depend on my ability to print and copy on a daily basis.
Help eager students with special needs!
My class is at a disadvantage of not having enough access to materials that fit their individual learning needs. Having printing materials readily available for my students will help provide them with in-class and take-home materials to increase their skills and confidence as readers.
