My Students
The students that I teach are from a very diverse background that makes teaching such a great opportunity. They are from an urban melting pot. This is sometimes the challenge because students of such diverse backgrounds have a difficult time understanding each other. This is the goal I approach every day I enter my classroom. We need to understand each other, work with each other, and talk to each other before we can begin to learn. There is an important aspect to an IB curriculum and that is the importance of integrating all that is learned into a fluid system of how the world works. This is something that all students at the school strive for and approach and work with to give them a more worldly view of why they are in school.
My Project
Given the current world we live in, education has completely changed. Our students are starting at computer screens for 8+ hours a day. This has led many to have migraines, fatigue, and general depression. Blue light glasses are designed to filter out the blue light emitted by screens. This helps with people getting a better night's sleep and studies show they help eye strain and headaches. We have families that have been affected by the pandemic and we would like to help supply those families with items to help their children succeed in school. This is a small gesture we can do to help spread equity in our school community.
