Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Second grade is an exciting group of mixed interests, newfound independence, abilities, and goals.
They all hold one thing in common -- their brilliance!
They are beginning to fully develop into independent readers but still may rely on adult support. Their excitement and interests are developing as they find their favorite genre of books. As for math, they are beginning to dive into more complicated reasoning behind addition and subtraction. This is setting up their foundation for multiplication and division.
Coming out of a full year of distance learning, supplies and proper materials have been depleted to help our students transition to a safe learning environment at home. Supporting this project will not only replenish these supplies, but also other newer materials to welcome our excited second graders back onto campus.
My Project
Throughout distance learning, Prepsters have been used to only engaging with limited technology. They have missed out on crucial moments of fun, engaging lessons at the lower elementary levels of Kindergarten and 1st grade. Some of the materials in this project will go towards making lessons more engaging and encouraging hard work.
Additionally, I want to continue to engage families in their students' learning by allowing them to send home hard work.
A mailbox will allow students to help sort papers so that packets of their completed work can be sent home easier and consistently. Studies show that when there is a clear partnership between school and home that students learn at a faster rate.
Lastly, some supplies have been depleted through distance learning. Currently, our classroom only has 6 pairs of headphones that are available for student use. As a teacher, I still want to equip students with 21st century skills and encourage technological literacy through learning programs like iReady and Typing Club. However, they are not able to engage in those programs with the amount of headphones in our classroom at this point.
Please consider donating to our class and project to help encourage the next generation of leaders.
