This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse community of learners ranging from non-English speakers to native English speakers. A large majority of my students come from the China-town borough of Philadelphia, and for some, this is their first time in the United States learning! Those who aren't from China-town, are from the surrounding South Philadelphia area, and we also have a couple of homeless shelters in our catchment, which students often live at as well. My students get to learn in an inclusive and welcoming environment with a great parent support group.
My Project
Strength training is so important as is skill development. I have put together a comprehensive training program that will help students start strength training (safely) at a younger age and help give them a razor-sharp edge on all future competition.
Our goal for every 7th and 8th-grade volleyball player is to increase their vertical jump by at least two inches.
We are using a combination of squats, deadlifts, and plyometrics in a safe, progressive manner that will help these girls WALK onto a high school team. Other volleyball accessories will help my 6th graders develop the fundamental skills necessary to compete at a high level.
