Do you ever daydream and visualize what our future will look like? Flying cars? Driverless cars? Robots? Glasses connected to the internet? Think back to when you were in fourth grade and compare it to the reality our current fourth graders are experiencing. Now fast forward twelve years into the future when my students will be walking across a stage for their graduation commencement. I can't even begin to imagine the advancements in technology from now until then! Our students are going to be the future of our society, future world changers, future world leaders and we need to start preparing them now.
"We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher's hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world" - David Warlick.
I am honored to be teaching in a fourth grade ICT classroom with 32 amazing students who are on various levels and come from many backgrounds. By the end of the year my students are expected to master all fourth grade skills even though they are starting the year on MANY different levels!
My Project
My classroom only gives my students access to six desktop computers, which means each day, only a fifth of my class can work on one at a time. Due to space constraints, it is hard to partner them up so they mostly work independently while sitting at the computer desk. If we had Chromebooks, I would be able to have almost one half of my students using technology at a time. While using a Chromebook, they will have the freedom to sit anywhere in the room and can work with a partner easily.
There are so many great websites and resources that help my lessons with differentiation, engagement, rigor and assist my English language learners.
My students would benefit greatly with access to Chromebooks.
