My students come from very diverse backgrounds. Most of them have at least one parent in the military, and some have both. Having a hero as a parent may mean frequent moves for those families.
It is always a little scary on the first day of school.
There are many students in my class who have several "first days" in the same grade. These students come in scared and not knowing what to expect. Students who have deployed parents are confused and feel as if their parent left them. I make it my duty to provide them with love and a classroom with structure and a daily routine that they can look forward to.
My Project
I am requesting a file and store cart that I can use to organize my students' work. Each child will have his or her own folder and know exactly where to go pick up their assignments and where to leave them after they are completed. This structure and organization will lessen the anxiety that child have when coming in to an unfamiliar place.
I also am requesting take-home/bring back bags for the children to use for daily notes and homework. On the back of each bag for weekly parent/teacher communication. This if ideal for those parents who may have been on leave. They will know what took place while they were out of town. This will lessen the burden of parents having to dig through backpacks for important notes and assignments.
I am proud to be teaching such amazing students.
Some of whom have to go months and sometimes a year without seeing their parents. I hope that I provide them with a place that lessens their worries and stress. These supplies will help me to keep our classroom organized and a fun place to be.
