My students need a Plant Growth Cart to learn how vegetables grow in an effort to promote healthy eating at our school!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Lucca's classroom raised $908
This project is fully funded
My Students
Living in a concrete jungle, our students have no knowledge of how our food is grown or where it comes from. Through Feed USA, we would like our students to experience what it is like to plant and grow vegetables, as well as harvest and enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Our K-2 students live in urban setting, with no green spaces to grow their own vegetables.
Although our school has a "No Junk Food" policy, our students still come to school eating cookies and drinking sugary drinks. Our school is trying to promote healthy eating by providing healthy snacks to our children three times a week. The K-2 community at our school would like to take this a step further and actually have the students plant, nurture and grow vegetables right in the classroom! The learning experience for our students would be invaluable.
My Project
By growing their own vegetables, our students will learn how plants grow first hand. By having the students grow their own vegetables, we are hoping to encourage a lifelong change in their eating habits as well as expose them to new types of vegetables. Having this plant growth cart would provide endless possibilities, not just for one class, but for a whole floor of students!
Many of our students are overweight and love to eat junk food.
Vegetables and other healthy food choices are limited in their neighborhood. We want to provide our students with the experience of growing their own vegetables in an effort to encourage healthy eating. Our students are completely ignorant to where their food comes from, or how it is grown. Growing their own vegetables will inspire our students to choose healthy snacks over junk food. Won't you help us to help our students?
