Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are 6th-8th graders in the heart of downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. We are a Title I school and 100% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. We have a large population of homeless students. One thing our students and parents consistently agree on is that our teachers, administration, and school staff make our school a safe and positive place to learn. Our kids are bright, strong and resilient and together we make up an amazing community.
My Project
Distance learning was recently extended until January for our Albuquerque students, and the learning curve has been steep for many. Despite the challenges, our students are trying their best to be present and engaged learners from home.
Many of our students are home with one or more siblings also attempting distance learning -- that's a lot of sound in the house all at once!
Most do not have private, quiet spaces to set up their at-home classroom. Over ear headphones would make a huge difference in their ability to concentrate and focus. Unfortunately, a lot of our kids' families are unable to buy them school supplies like headphones, and we haven't been supplied any from the district to give out.
By helping fund this project, you will help out the student who is trying to listen and learn during one of the most difficult times in recent history.
