My students need 10 digital voice recorders to record and hear themselves so they can practice and memorize their poetry.

My Students
My students are from a low income area in Chicago. But do not let the stereotype of low income influence your mental image of them. These students are poets and amazing writers. They need digital recorders to help them become even better poets.
My students are 10th grade students and compete in Spoken Word Poetry Slams in Chicago.
They are from an area of Chicago where most people are afraid to go. They write and perform from the heart and are extremely intelligent. If you would like to see some of their past performances please click this link http://www.livestream.com/teamenglewood/folder?dirId=8079779576590957185
The students compete in the Chicago Louder Than A Bomb Competition which brings together 60 different schools across the Chicago land area. This competition allows kids from Chicago and the suburbs to meet and create community with students who they otherwise may not meet.
Many of the students had never written poetry before and are now in a very short time not only writing and performing poetry, but doing so in such a way to inspire themselves and others.
My Project
The audio recorders that I am requesting will allow my students the poets to record and hear themselves so they can better prepare for their competitions. They will be able to memorize and playback their poems and also listen to their poetry and work on their poems to make them more fluent.
The students once they have the recorders will be able to learn an important and difficult skill of self critique and improvement.
This project is important because where my students come from the news only reports the bad things about their community.
By them becoming better poets and getting their stories out it allows for people to view who they are in a much different way than the news reports.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
