Help Our Special Ed. Pre-K Classroom Support Student Development!
My students need sturdy, stable shelving to support them as they learn to pull up to stand and cruise along furniture, as well as sensory and block play materials to support our upcoming Buildings unit.
I teach preschool students in a self-contained special education classroom. Our public separate school serves students with severe disabilities, age birth to 21 years old. Our students' determination and perseverance inspire us all every day! Each has faced and overcome many significant medical and physical challenges during their young lives.
Our classroom currently serves 7 students with significant health impairments and/or developmental delays that impact their motor skills, language, and cognition.
Students use assistive devices for mobility and adapted materials to support fine motor activities and communication. Some of our students also have impaired hearing and vision. My classroom team strives to support our students in gaining increased independence in their school environment.
Our district recently adopted use of a new curriculum in our preschool EC classrooms. In order for my students to access and participate in planned activities, we carefully adapt materials and modify lessons to meet each student's individual needs.
My Project
Having access to a variety of eye catching block play materials will encourage our EC PreK students to explore, use their imagination, and understand concepts such as positions, shapes, and attributes. These materials will also support our upcoming buildings unit.
Students with delays in physical development will benefit from sturdy & stable shelving that will safely support them as they learn to pull up and cruise along furniture to access their classroom environment and curriculum materials.
Students who use a wheelchair to navigate the classroom will enjoy using sensory play bins and materials that can be securely positioned on their tray, within reach.
