Organization matters - especially in a special education classroom!
Our school is home to about 300 students in a high poverty, inner city neighborhood.
Our school is highly mobile with almost 20% of our students experiencing homelessness. Despite the challenges that our students face, they are incredibly resilient. The students that learn in my classroom all have low incidence disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, and Down Syndrome. Their vivacious personalities, zest for life, and boldness are a huge part of our school culture. They do not let developmental delays or poverty get in the way of their learning. I truly LOVE my job as their teacher and cannot imagine teaching a different group of children.
My Project
The materials we are requesting will greatly help us to organize our classroom. We would love a dish drying rack as a place to house our iPads (they'll fit perfectly!), and a charging station so they can all be charged at once. Additionally, we need a large pocket chart to keep track of all of my student paperwork, "chair sacks" so my students can keep their needed materials hanging right on the back of their chairs, and Command Strips from 3M and "s" hooks for us to hang and organize our frequently used materials. The more organized our classroom is, the more accessible it is for my students. When they know where everything is located, they can become more independent in gathering and putting away materials.
Independence is why I teach - I want all of my students to become as independent as possible.
Keeping our classroom organized is a crucial step in helping my students navigate their environment independently. Please help us in this endeavor! Thank you!
