Help me give my students graphic novels for our after school Comics Club. We are requesting titles like: John Lewis' March, Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales and the Lunch Lady series.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in an area of low economic development. Over 90% of our students are growing up in poverty. Books and resources are scarce in their homes. But they come to school every day eager to learn and to apply their new skills.
One of the major goals we have for our students is to foster a passion for reading!
We have an after school book club where about 30 students volunteer to read. Graphic novels are a great way to inspire students to read more. They love the stories and the visual are helpful to our students just learning English. The illustrations also help our reluctant readers follow along.
My Project
One of our biggest goals as teachers is to get our students excited about reading. Sometimes that passion takes some time to build. I have found that graphic novels-books written in a comic book format- are just the ticket to inspire our young readers. They are full of visuals which helps with comprehension, even if they have trouble reading all the words.
We want to foster a love of reading in our students!
Many of our students are English language learners, so the graphics in these stories help them learn to read and understand English. These titles are meaningful and can inspire deep learning as well. We have requested titles like John Lewis' series March. There are books about science and social studies concepts. There are books about tolerance and including children with disabilities.
Our students can sign up for an after school club to read and discuss these books. This year it will have to be virtual discussions but I would love to distribute these books to our students at their homes. They can read them and talk about them with fellow students through Zoom meetings.
