My Students

Once upon a time, in an old musty basement, lived a kindergarten class for students with special needs. These students were tired of coming to school and getting sick all year long, and needed a magical device to help them breathe clean air!

Our students are amazing boys and girls with special needs who range from ages three to five.

They are incredibly smart, energetic and have amazing potential to excel in our school system. Currently, due to space restriction, our kindergarten classrooms are located in the basement area of our building. Every year we face the challenge of properly ventilating our rooms. In warm weather, we keep the windows open, but unfortunately, because we are in Massachusetts those warm days during the school year are few and far between. If we open the windows in the winter, our room becomes unbearably cold and our little friends express their discomfort.

My Project

Like many children their age, the are often sick with colds throughout the year. Our children are still learning how to cover their mouths when they sneeze or cough and we have had several lessons on this procedure, but they seem to still struggle with remembering to do this in the moment. Despite frequent hand washing and our best efforts to ventilate the room, it seems that both the children and the staff share germs and have perpetual colds throughout the year. A couple of years ago, The Swine Flu actually originated in our classroom and spread throughout our school causing us to be shut down for a week!

We want our wonderful kids to be as healthy as they can be.

While we realize that colds are common for our age group, the spread of viruses throughout our basement is highly unusual. Please help us by funding our air filter. We hope that this will help to filter out the germs and dirt we breathe in on a daily basis. Thank you in advance for your help and support.
