Thank you for checking out my project! I am requesting your support in building a culturally representative and authentically diverse classroom library for my young students. My school is populated with 77% students who are White, making it essential that we lift up and celebrate the diversity and cultures of those who are not in the majority.
My project requests a selection of high-quality literature books featuring underrepresented populations: diverse cultures and communities, including Native American, Hispanic, and African American peoples as well as the LGBTQ community.
The texts have diverse characters and cultural themes as well as a strong social-emotional and racial-justice learning element that will support all of my learners in being their very best selves.
I have added in a vocabulary tool to build meaningful language discussions into our literacy time, which will be used daily to build up the understanding of American English for all of my learners, but especially supporting my Culturally Diverse Learners and English as a Second Language kiddos.
These tools will help create a rich and culturally responsible classroom library experience for my students so they can experience authentic, inclusive, social-justice-minded stories every day.
