This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am teaching a second and third-grade split special day class in a Title I school. My students' parents are unable to provide them with all the school materials they may need. During this time of remote learning, we will begin the year virtually, and I would like for my students to have access to materials they will need to be successful. My students do not have sufficient access at home. Parents are currently dealing with the loss of employment and health issues worrying about getting their children school materials should not be on their list.
My students are amazing, caring individuals who need more access to materials to help them succeed.
In these very technologically-driven times, it is very important for our students to continue to have a passion for learning. This will help prepare them for obstacles they will need to work through, whether they be social-emotional or academic, that worrying about materials will not be a variable.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in the classroom because it will help my students access newer books. Students will get to read books about feelings and other perspectives. There are a lot of picture books that teach so many different lessons that teach us about other characters and cultures that my students don't always get to read about.
Books always open up the door to my students' imaginations, and these books will do just that.
These books provide my students easy to understand social-emotional ideas that they may not have been able to express before. These books will also be used for multiple school years in my classroom library.
