This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am teaching a fourth and fifth-grade split special day class in a Title I school. My students' parents are unable to provide them with all the school materials they may need. Due to this, my students do not have sufficient access to books at home, which contributes to my students' literacy levels. Our school does provide some books but not enough to have it accessible for to our students everyday and parents are unable to take there children to the local library because it has been closed for construction for months now.
My students are amazing, caring individuals who need more access to books to help them succeed.
In these very technologically-driven times, it is very important for our students to learn to have a passion for reading. This will help prepare them improve their reading fluency. My students already have so many obstacles to work through, whether they be social-emotional or academic, that worrying about when they can check out a new book should not be one.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in the classroom because it will help my students access newer books. Students will get to read books about feelings and other perspective. There are a lot of fairy tales with different point of view that can really help students understand how other characters saw the story.
Books always open up the door to my students imaginations and these books will do just that.
These books provide my students easy to understand social emotional ideas that they may not have been able to express before. These books will also be used for multiple school years in my classroom library.
