My Students
We are a neighborhood school in the school district of Philadelphia. Our students come from the low income areas in Philadelphia. Our entire school qualifies for free lunch and transportation to and from school, based on the fact that a majority of the students live below the poverty line.
As a neighborhood school in the school district of Philadelphia, our students face many obstacles; yet, they persevere.
Our students need support and aid in any way possible to help increase their chances of being successful.
My Project
One of the initiatives we started was adding a Varsity Lacrosse team. We are one of twelve schools in the Philadelphia Public School system to have a team. Adding 6 new shoulder pads and 6 new defensive lacrosse sticks are vital for the team needs.
Creating and maintaining a Lacrosse team is a financial uphill battle.
This is our sixth year in the league and we have been to the championship twice. The borrowed and used equipment we obtained to start the team, is beginning to fall apart. The coach and team have done an incredible job of making do, but assistance to add and upgrade our equipment is needed. More important, we have been able to send multiple students to continue their lacrosse careers in college.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
