Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Third graders in a New York public school who go home to a house, apartment or shelter that has no books. This advanced third grade class in an extremely low-income community is made up of students who want to do well and want to learn as much as they can, but have little to no resources to do so.
My students have the wildest of imaginations. They love to write stories about living in outer space, traveling to the deepest parts of the ocean and living in medieval times. Mary Pope Osborne's series "The Magic Tree House" is the perfect set of books to help fuel their imagination even more and set them off on the most extraordinary of adventures!
Earlier this month, I read aloud the first book of "The Magic Tree House" series and my students were so excited about the travels of Jack and Annie. They kept asking me to read more of the books and wanted to borrow them from my classroom. Unfortunately, I do not have the full series nor copies of the books for them to borrow. What I need is the Magic Tree House series, books 1-28 so that the basic set is complete, in addition to the Research Guides which students can use after reading each respective series book. Students will be allowed to borrow the books so that they can watch the progression of the characters and the plot developments as the stories progress in order. To help support my students even more, I plan on creating a list of extension activities to go along with each book, allowing them to make the best possible use of your donation and encouraging them to become great readers and thinkers!
