My Students

To engage student in learning, they need to experience activities first hand. We study healthy eating, life cycles of butterflies, how plant grow, the water cycle, weather and many more lessons that really need to take place in an outdoor classroom for students to find the lessons relevant and fun.

We are a public elementary magnet school named after one of the young victims of the Sandy Hook shooting.

In her honor, we pursue an arts integrated approach to learning. Our students are 50% urban and 50% from the surrounding districts. We are a title one school, which means the majority of our students come from low income families and are on free or reduced lunch. Our students are creative, bright, wonderful young people who look forward to coming to school everyday. Not only do they explore academically, but take part in music classes, singing, playing stringed instruments, dancing, acting and writing. I would describe my school as a joyous place where kids can be themselves and explore both their inner and outer worlds. We are a nurturing safe place that encourages a true renaissance approach to education.

My Project

Your donation would help us to create an outdoor classroom. This will enable us create a lab environment where students can explore the outdoor world around them to learn about nature, life cycles, weather, painting landscapes, creating sound gardens, gardening, the water cycle, butterflies, animal habitats, the list goes on and on.

Many of our students are from an urban setting.

They are not allowed out to play at home, do not have access to green spaces, or get to travel. Your donations will help to ensure that our students have a regular access to learning about the joys of gardening, nurturing, and caring for a living ecosystem. Many will learn about healthy eating, recycling, and being a good citizen to our environment and our school.
