Help Our Emerging 1st Grade Readers!

Help me give my students more books, especially text that is accessible and enjoyable for beginning readers. These kind of books are hard to find in stores and libraries, but we can make them accessible at school!

My Students

This is my 20th year teaching and my second year in this school, district, and community.

My class consists of 20 first graders who are both similar and diverse in many strengths, challenges, interests, needs, wants, and hopes.

Three of my students are English learners, some of them receive 1:1 support, and all of them spent nearly half of Kindergarten at home using the teleschool model due to COVID-19. As the mother of an incoming first grader, I know the potential impact this pandemic has had on their routines, social-emotional growth, and routines.

My Project

This project is designed to boost our class library for the emerging readers, those first graders who are still learning to read and need books that they can read independently.

Having actual books that are engaging and interesting is the key to keeping them engaged and helping them make progress.

This set of 20 books will help us add to our current collection. This collection includes a variety of titles at various levels, covering different topics. There's something for everyone and I know our students will get great use out of these for many years to come.
